Mobile direct thermal printer

The Brother PocketJet 8 PJ-823 is a compact monochrome inkjet printer built for mobile label printing. It produces output at up to 13.5 pages per minute with a maximum resolution of 300 x 300 dpi. The unit weighs approximately 1.34 lb and measures 1.2" high by 10" wide by 2.2" deep, making it easy to carry in a bag or vehicle. It supports Mac and SPARC platforms for driver compatibility.

Power and media compatibility

Before ordering, confirm that your workflow can use direct thermal media in A4, A5, Letter or Legal sizes. The printer draws power from an internal battery or an external power adapter, so verify you have access to charging when working away from mains power. Operating temperature range is 14°F (-10°C) to 122°F (50°C) with relative humidity between 20% and 80%. Ensure your host device provides a USB connection for data transfer.

USB host and bundled items

A USB host port allows direct connection of compatible peripherals such as barcode scanners or keyboards without a computer intermediary. The package includes the printer unit, battery and power adapter so you can start printing immediately. No ink cartridges or toner are required because the direct thermal process creates images on heat-sensitive paper. Driver support for Mac and SPARC systems is included to simplify setup.

Questions about this item

What paper sizes does the PJ823 support and do I need to buy any special media?

The PJ823 prints on A4, Letter, Legal and A5 sheets. It uses direct thermal technology so no ink or toner is required; only thermal paper must be purchased separately.

Which PJ823 configuration should I choose for mobile use?

Only the PJ823 model is listed. It runs from a rechargeable battery or the included power adapter, weighs 1.34 lb and measures 1.2 x 10 x 2.2 inches, making it suited to mobile work.

What does the 13.5 ppm rating mean when I am printing labels on the move?

ISO mono speed of 13.5 pages per minute is measured on A4/Letter. In practice, label throughput will be similar for short runs, and the 300 x 300 dpi resolution keeps text and barcodes sharp.
