External BDXL Blu-ray Burner

The Buffalo MediaStation BRXL-16U3 is a new external optical drive that writes BDXL discs at up to 16x speed. It connects through a USB 3.0 interface and reads or writes Blu-ray, DVD and CD media. The package includes a USB 3.0 cable, a setup disc with CyberLink Media Suite software and a quick setup guide.

Suits desktop users adding high-capacity optical

This drive suits users who need to archive up to 128 GB on a single four-layer BDXL disc instead of the 25 GB limit of standard Blu-ray. It also serves buyers who want bundled CyberLink tools for disc authoring and playback. It does not suit buyers who need an internal 5.25-inch drive or who require a different host interface than USB 3.0.

BDXL capacity up to 128 GB per disc

The single specification that decides fit is BDXL support, which enables writing 128 GB to a four-layer disc compared to 25 GB on a traditional single-layer Blu-ray. If your workflow needs that capacity, this drive meets it; if standard Blu-ray capacity is sufficient, the extra capability may be unnecessary.

Questions about this item

How much desk space do the 1.97" x 6.30" x 8.66" dimensions need?

The drive measures 1.97 inches high, 6.30 inches wide and 8.66 inches deep, so allow at least that footprint plus room for the USB 3.0 cable bend radius.

What is the correct order to connect the USB 3.0 cable and the CyberLink setup disc?

Plug the USB 3.0 cable into the PC first, wait for the drive to be recognised, then insert the CyberLink setup disc to install the Media Suite software.

When will a BDXL disc or the CyberLink Media Suite need replacement?

BDXL media is write-once and does not wear out; the CyberLink Media Suite licence is perpetual for the version supplied, so no subscription renewal is required.
