USB 2.0 to 10/100 RJ45 adapter for legacy
This compact adapter adds a wired Ethernet port to ultrabooks, notebooks, MacBooks and tablets that lack one. It connects the host to a router, modem or network switch via a standard RJ45 cable. The Realtek IC chipset handles the conversion and the device draws power directly from the USB bus.
Replaces a failed onboard NIC
It is the practical choice when an internal network card has stopped working or when a machine is limited to 10 Mbps Ethernet. The jump to 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet is worth it whenever a stable wired link is preferred over unreliable Wi‑Fi. Driver installation is a one‑time step on Windows 7, XP, Vista, macOS and Linux; Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 work driver‑free.
Limited by USB 2.0 bandwidth to 100 Mbps maximum
The USB 2.0 interface caps throughput at 100 Mbps even though the RJ45 port supports 10/100 negotiation, so gigabit speeds cannot be reached. The adapter is not compatible with Nintendo Switch or Wii U consoles. It works with USB 1.0 and 1.1 hosts, but performance will fall to the lower bus limit.

Questions about this item
Does the USB 2.0 plug fit a USB 1.1 port on an older laptop?
Yes, the adapter is backward compatible with USB 1.0 and USB 1.1 ports, though the 10/100 Mbps Ethernet link will run at the host port's maximum speed.
After plugging it into a Windows 7 machine, what step must I complete before the RJ45 port becomes active?
Run the one-time driver installation supplied by the manufacturer; Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 are driver-free, but Windows 7 requires the installer.
If the Realtek IC chipset fails after heavy use, what is the expected service path?
The product carries a two-year warranty; contact the maker for a replacement unit rather than attempting component-level repair.
