Ethernet to RS-232 serial bridge
The CableMAX dongle connects a standard RS-232 device to a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network. It operates as both a TCP/IP server and client, allowing up to twelve simultaneous network connections. Data is bridged bi-directionally between the serial port and all connected clients at rates up to 230 Kbps. Hardware and software handshaking are supported for flow control.
Replaces direct serial cabling
This adapter removes the distance limit of a physical RS-232 cable by extending the connection over an existing LAN. The jump is worth it when equipment must be monitored or controlled from a central server room or across a building. It also consolidates multiple network clients onto one serial port without a dedicated host PC. The integrated 802.3 interface handles DHCP and HTTP for simple deployment.
Suits industrial and lab integration
Engineers connecting scientific instruments, AV distribution gear, or legacy industrial controllers to modern networks will find the bridge fits directly into a 9-pin port. It requires no driver installation on the serial side and supports both UDP and TCP transport. Buyers needing higher baud rates, more than twelve concurrent sessions, or wireless connectivity should look at alternative gateway hardware.

Questions about this item
Does the dongle’s DB-9 connector follow the standard RS-232 pin-out for direct connection to industrial equipment?
Yes — the 9-pin RS-232 port uses the standard D-sub pin assignment, so a straight-through serial cable will link it to PC, industrial or scientific gear without a null-modem adapter.
What network setting causes the bridge to fail if it is left on factory defaults?
The unit ships with DHCP enabled; if your network has no DHCP server the device will not obtain an IP address, so you must assign a static address through the web interface before deployment.
When should the internal configuration backup be refreshed?
Save a new backup through the HTTP management page whenever you change baud rate, handshaking mode or the list of allowed TCP connections, so a replacement unit can be restored in minutes.
