Purpose-built RS-232 adapter cable

This 1.5ft Velocity cable connects a DB9 male port to a 3.5mm male jack for three-conductor RS-232 serial control. It carries only ground on pin 5, transmit on pin 3 and receive on pin 2. The design suits computers, projectors and control units that require this limited wiring scheme. Fully moulded connectors add strain relief for permanent installs.

Repurposes existing audio cabling

The adapter lets you run RS-232 control signals over a standard 3.5mm stereo cable instead of pulling new DB9 wiring. It bridges the control unit and display using the three conductors already present in the audio lead. No extra software or drivers are involved; the cable simply maps the required pins. This saves installation time in retrofit AV projects.

Verify three-wire RS-232 requirement

Confirm that both the controller and the target device use a three-conductor RS-232 interface with common ground, transmit and receive only.
