  • Works with older laptops and desktops

What it is

The Cables Unlimited ADP5200 is a passive adapter that lets you plug a USB keyboard or mouse into a PS/2 port on an older computer. It is intended for users who want to keep using newer input devices with legacy desktops or laptops that lack USB sockets.

Who it suits

This adapter works only with keyboards and mice that internally support both USB and PS/2 signalling. It will not function with purely USB peripherals, so buyers who need to connect modern USB-only hardware should look for an active converter instead.

Installation notes

Simply insert the adapter into the PS/2 port and attach the USB device; no drivers or external power are required. The most common issue is attempting to use a peripheral that lacks dual-protocol support, which results in the device not being recognised.

Questions about this item

Must my USB keyboard or mouse already support PS/2 signalling for this ADP5200 adapter to work?

Yes, the adapter is passive and only functions with input devices that are compatible with both USB and PS/2 connections.

Will this ADP5200 adapter let me keep using a legacy PS/2 keyboard on a modern USB-only PC?

No, it converts a USB keyboard or mouse to a PS/2 port, not the other way around.

How can I confirm the ADP5200 adapter is working after I plug it in?

The connected USB keyboard or mouse should be recognised immediately by the system with no extra drivers required.
