Compact flatbed scanner captures documents at 2400 dpi optical resolution with single-cable USB 2.0 power and data
The Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 is a slim flatbed scanner built for everyday digitising of documents and photos up to 8.5 by 11.7 inches. It connects through a single Hi-Speed USB 2.0 cable that also supplies power, so no separate adapter is needed. The CIS sensor and three-colour RGB LEDs give 2400 by 2400 dpi optical resolution with 48-bit internal colour depth. Four EZ buttons and the included IJ Scan Utility software make one-touch operation simple for Windows, macOS and Linux users.
Drawing only 4.5 watts while scanning and 0.3 watts in standby, the unit adds minimal load to a USB port and runs without a cooling fan. The LED light source eliminates warm-up time, so the first scan starts immediately and the mechanism stays quiet during the 10-second letter-size pass at 300 dpi. Its 1.70-inch height and 3.60-pound weight keep the desktop footprint small and the device easy to move between workstations.
The scanner maintains its 2400 dpi optical resolution and 48-bit colour fidelity across repeated scans, so multi-page archives or photo batches show no quality drop-off. Interpolated resolution reaches 19200 by 19200 dpi for enlargement work, while the 4 by 6 inch photo preset finishes in roughly 5 seconds at 300 dpi. Because power and data share one cable, there is no risk of adapter failure interrupting long sessions, and the standby mode keeps energy use negligible between tasks.

Connect the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 cable to the PC; the single cable supplies both data and power so no separate adapter is needed. Install the IJ Scan Utility software from the Canon support site before scanning. The step users miss is installing the ScanGear MP driver first, otherwise the utility cannot detect the scanner.
The CIS sensor and RGB LED light source have no user-replaceable parts. Routine care is limited to wiping the 8.5 x 11.7 inch platen glass with a lint-free cloth and keeping the 1.70 inch high lid hinge free of dust. No lamp replacement is required because the LEDs are rated for the product life.
The 4.5 watt USB power budget caps sustained throughput. After roughly 10 seconds per letter page the scanner pauses to stay within the 0.3 watt standby envelope, so the USB bus thermal limit — not the 2400 dpi sensor — becomes the bottleneck.
