Compact Flatbed for Home and Office

The Canon CanoScan LiDE 400 is a slim flatbed scanner built for everyday document and photo digitisation. It uses a CIS sensor with three-colour RGB LEDs to capture 4800 x 4800 dpi optical resolution and 48-bit internal colour depth. A single USB Type-C cable supplies both data and power, keeping the setup minimal on any desk.

Upgrade from Slower or Bulkier Units

This model replaces older flatbeds that require separate power bricks or slower USB interfaces. The jump is worth it when you need 300 dpi letter-size colour scans in roughly eight seconds and 4 x 6 inch photos in about four seconds. It is not suited for users who need automatic document feeding, double-feed detection or network scanning.

Consistent Output During Batch Work

Power draw stays at 4.5 watts while scanning and drops to 0.3 watts in standby, so the scanner runs cool during extended sessions. The lightweight 3.60 lb chassis remains stable on the desktop or in its upright stand without vibration. Driver support covers Windows 10, 8.1 and 7 SP1, macOS up to 10.13 and Linux via ScanGear MP.

Questions about this item

How much desk depth does the 1.70" high LiDE 400 need when stood upright?

The scanner measures 9.90" deep by 14.50" wide in its vertical stance, so allow at least 10 inches of shelf depth plus cable clearance.

Which driver must be installed on Linux before the ScanGear MP software will recognise the USB Type-C scanner?

Install the ScanGear MP driver package supplied by Canon for Linux; without it the 4800 dpi CIS device will not appear in scanning applications.

When should the three-colour RGB LED light source be expected to dim enough to affect 4800 dpi scan quality?

The LED array is rated for the life of the scanner and is not user-replaceable; if output drops, the unit requires service rather than a bulb change.
