Canon PGI-72M Magenta Ink Cartridge

This genuine Canon LUCIA ink cartridge delivers professional-grade magenta output for compatible photo printers. It is designed for photographers and artists who require archival-quality prints with accurate colour reproduction. The individual tank system lets you replace only the depleted colour, reducing waste and ongoing cost.

Installation and common issues

The cartridge slots directly into the printer's dedicated magenta bay using the keyed interface, so no tools are required. Most problems occur when the protective seal is not fully removed or when the chip contacts are touched, causing recognition errors. Using non-genuine refills can also trigger firmware warnings and affect printhead health.

LUCIA ink system limits

The pigment-based LUCIA formulation provides water and fade resistance on supported media, but longevity depends heavily on paper choice and display conditions. Prints exposed to direct sunlight or high humidity will degrade faster than lab ratings suggest. The cartridge is single-use and cannot be refilled without third-party hardware that voids the printer warranty.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the PGI-72M magenta cartridge is working correctly after installation?

Print a nozzle-check pattern from the printer maintenance menu; the magenta grid should appear solid with no gaps, confirming the LUCIA ink and FINE print head are flowing properly.

What comes in the box with the 6405B002 cartridge and what must I buy separately?

The box contains one new genuine Canon PGI-72M magenta ink tank; you must purchase the other colour tanks, compatible photo paper and a supported Canon printer separately.

Which capacity version of the PGI-72 magenta ink should I choose for my printer?

The 6405B002 is the standard PGI-72M magenta tank; select it when your printer requires the individual LUCIA magenta cartridge for the separate-ink system.
