Portable dye-sublimation photo printer

The Canon SELPHY QX20 is a compact dye-sublimation photo printer weighing approximately 1 lb and measuring 4 x 1.3 x 5.7 inches. It produces borderless prints on three sides for both 2.1 x 3.4 inch card and 2.7 x 2.7 inch square sticker media. Wireless 802.11b/g and USB-C connectivity allow direct printing from smartphones or tablets using the Canon SELPHY Photo Layout app. It suits event attendees, crafters and travellers who want instant physical photos.

Print resolution and media format

The printer operates at 287 x 287 dpi using dye-sublimation technology, which applies a protective overcoat that makes prints water-resistant and marker-ready. Output is instantly dry and rated for up to 100 years of longevity. The only supported media sizes are the two sticker formats listed above; no larger paper sizes or plain paper types are compatible. Buyers who need A4 documents, larger photo sizes or non-sticker media cannot use this device.

Sustained printing behaviour

Each print completes in approximately 40 seconds, and the dye-sublimation process maintains consistent colour density across multiple pages because the thermal transfer ribbon advances with every sheet. The protective overcoat is applied during the same pass, so handling does not degrade quality during a session. The small footprint limits internal media capacity, so frequent reloading is required for batch printing at events. Users needing continuous high-volume output without interruption will find the reload interval restrictive.
