30mm Ultima Edge 2" Eyepiece

The 30mm Ultima Edge is a 2" barrel eyepiece built for visual astronomy. Its 9-element, 5-group optical design delivers edge-to-edge sharpness across a wide 70-degree apparent field. Fully multi-coated lenses maximise light transmission for bright, high-contrast views of deep-sky objects and lunar detail. It suits observers who want immersive, comfortable sessions with or without glasses.

Practical limits of the 2" barrel and 70° field

The 2" barrel fits standard 2" focusers and diagonals but will not seat in 1.25" hardware without an adapter. The 70-degree apparent field requires a telescope with sufficient focal length to frame objects as intended; very fast focal ratios may show edge vignetting. Internal 1.25" filter threads accept standard filters, yet the 22mm eye relief may feel long for users who prefer closer eye placement. Buyers needing a 1.25" barrel or a narrower field for planetary work should consider other models.

Machined aluminium housing and filter-ready barrel

The main housing is machined from high-grade aluminium with a black anodised finish for durability and a secure, non-slip grip in cold conditions. The 2" barrel is internally threaded for 1.25" filters, allowing quick attachment of nebula or colour filters without extra adapters. A rubber eye guard folds down to protect the eye lens and improve comfort during extended use. The solid construction resists flexure when mounted in heavy 2" diagonals.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 30mm or a shorter focal length for wider true field?

The 30mm focal length gives the widest true field with this 70-degree design; shorter focal lengths reduce true field but increase magnification.

What does the 70-degree apparent field look like at the telescope?

A 70-degree apparent field delivers an immersive, panoramic view that shows a large swath of sky in a single glance.

Can I use 1.25-inch filters on the 2-inch barrel?

The 2-inch barrel has internal 1.25-inch filter threads so standard 1.25-inch filters screw in directly.
