Cisco Catalyst 9300 24-port data switch

The Cisco Catalyst 9300 provides 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports for managed network access. It suits businesses that need Layer 2 switching with Network Essentials licensing. The unit fits a standard 1.7-inch rack height and supports twisted-pair cabling. Additional licensing is required to activate full management features.

Thermals noise and power draw

The switch operates from an internal power supply with no redundant supply option. Its 17.5-inch depth and 16.03 lb weight reflect a fixed chassis designed for rack mounting. Fan noise and thermal output scale with port utilisation under normal office conditions. Power consumption varies with the number of active 10/100/1000Base-T links.

Stack port and uplink flexibility

A dedicated stack port allows the switch to join a Catalyst 9300 stack for unified management. Uplink capability extends connectivity to aggregation layers without using front-panel ports. The RoHS-5 certification confirms restricted hazardous substances in the assembly. Modular expansion is not supported on this fixed-configuration model.

Questions about this item

How do I rack-mount the 1.7" high C9300-24T-E and what step is often missed?

Mount the 1.7" high chassis in a standard rack using the included brackets, then secure both front and rear ears; the rear supports are frequently skipped, causing instability.

What maintenance will the C9300-24T-E need over its lifetime?

Clean the fan vents periodically to prevent dust build-up and apply Cisco IOS-XE software updates; the internal power supply is not hot-swappable, so a failure requires a planned outage.

What is the first limit hit when all 24 ports run at 1000 Mbps continuously?

The 24 x Gigabit Ethernet ports share the backplane bandwidth, so sustained wire-speed traffic on every port will saturate the switching fabric before any single port limit is reached.
