Cobalt End Mill 1/4 in 4 Flute

The Cleveland Cobalt end mill has a 1/4 in. cutting diameter with a 3/8 in. shank and four flutes. Its TiCN coating resists wear on cobalt, nickel, austenitic alloys, high tensile steels from 40 to 55 HrC, stainless steel and titanium alloys. The square, single-end design is centre-cutting for plunging and peripheral milling.

TiCN Coating Limits

TiCN improves heat resistance and lubricity but it is not suited for every material. The tool is specified for the alloy groups listed above and may wear faster on abrasive composites or very soft, gummy metals. Coolant choice and spindle rigidity also affect whether the coating reaches its expected life.

Installation and Common Issues

Clamp the 3/8 in. shank securely in a matching collet or end-mill holder to prevent pull-out under load. Run the right-hand helix at the correct speed and feed for the target hardness; excessive speed burns the coating while too low a feed causes rubbing.
