Medium-Range PoE IR Illuminator

The Computar Ganz IRL-M12-POE is a medium-range infrared illuminator designed to extend night-vision coverage for IP cameras. It draws power and data through a single IEEE 802.3af PoE connection, simplifying installation on existing network infrastructure. The unit casts a 120º beam angle reaching up to 66 feet. Its IP67-rated anodized aluminium housing withstands harsh outdoor conditions.

Suits PoE camera installs; not standalone

This illuminator suits installers adding dedicated IR lighting to PoE-powered surveillance systems where a 120º spread matches the camera field of view. The built-in photocell and telemetry input enable automatic or remote switching. Buyers needing a narrow 60º beam for longer throw distances should look at alternative models. Units requiring independent mains power or wireless control are not compatible.

120º beam angle at 66 feet

The single specification that determines fit is the 120º beam angle combined with a 66-foot range. A wider angle covers broad areas such as forecourts or building perimeters but reduces intensity compared with narrower optics. Verify that the camera lens angle matches this spread to avoid dark corners or wasted illumination.

Questions about this item

What network standard must my switch support to power this IRL-M12-POE illuminator?

The illuminator requires a switch or injector compliant with IEEE 802.3af PoE to deliver both power and data over a single Ethernet cable.

Will the 120° beam angle of this unit overlap with the narrower 60° field of view on my existing camera?

The 120° beam spreads wider than a 60° camera view, so the illuminator will flood the scene and cover the camera's entire frame plus the periphery.

How can I verify the built-in photocell is switching the IR LEDs on at dusk?

Cover the photocell on top of the housing; the IR LEDs should activate immediately, confirming the automatic on/off function is working.
