Lets two PCs share one RS-232 device via USB with automatic first-come-first-served switching and FTDI chipset
The CoolGear CG-2URS232A connects two USB hosts to a single RS-232 serial device. It uses dual FTDI chipsets and MCU control to manage the connection automatically. The adapter supports data rates over 250 Kbps and meets EIA/TIA-232F specifications. It draws power directly from the USB bus with no external supply required.
This unit suits users who need two computers to share one serial instrument, barcode scanner or industrial controller on a first-come-first-served basis. A five-second timeout releases the port when the active host stops transmitting. Buyers who require simultaneous multi-drop access or software-controlled port switching should look at a different solution.
Driver support spans Windows 98 through Windows 10, Mac OS 8.6 and later, and Linux kernels. The DB9 male connector is wired for DTE mode. Dual-colour LEDs show which host owns the port (green) and TXD activity (red). ESD protection up to 15 kV guards the serial I/O. The compact 60 × 50 × 25 mm enclosure weighs 37 g.

The converter works with USB 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 ports and draws power from the USB bus, so no external supply is needed.
Yes, the RS-232 port meets EIA/TIA-232F and CCITT V.24 specs and handles data rates over 250 Kbps, so older gear will communicate normally.
Green lights indicate which PC is currently selected, while red flashes on each TXD transfer, confirming first-come-first-served switching with the 5-second timeout.
