This CoolGear CG-4URS232M lets one serial device be shared across four computers using a manual selector. It targets engineers and technicians who maintain legacy industrial or lab equipment that still relies on RS-232 connections. The unit requires no software driver beyond the FTDI chipset support already present in Windows, macOS and Linux.

FTDI chipset with ESD protection

The adapter uses a single FTDI chipset and meets EIA/TIA-232F and CCITT V.24 specifications. Data rates exceed 250kbps and the RS-232 I/O lines are protected to ±15KV ESD. It draws power from the USB bus so no external supply is needed, and the DB9 male connector operates in DTE mode.

Plug-and-play with LED port indicator

Installation is driver-free on supported operating systems; simply connect the USB cables and press the front button to switch the active port. An LED shows which computer is currently selected.
