USB-powered fan speed controller
The D-Link USB to 4-pin splitter cable draws 5 V from any USB port and converts it to an adjustable 5 V to 12 V output for 2-pin, 3-pin, 4-pin or DC5521 fans and pumps. A sliding knob provides stepless voltage control while an integrated switch cuts power instantly without unplugging. The 146 cm main cable plus a 30 cm adapter allow flexible routing in PC cases, server cabinets, routers or custom cooling projects.
Sustained load behaviour
The unit delivers up to 36 W across supported models, so a single high-draw fan or pump can run continuously at 12 V without the voltage sag seen on shorter USB leads. Stepless adjustment lets you match voltage to the exact thermal load, keeping airflow stable over long sessions rather than ramping to maximum for brief bursts. The USB supply remains the limiting factor, so total draw cannot exceed what the host port provides.
Upgrade context
This cable replaces fixed-voltage molex or motherboard headers that offer no speed control, and it removes the need for a separate wall adapter in USB-powered setups. The jump is worth it when you need variable fan speed for noise reduction or when the only convenient power source is a USB port on a PC, DVR, TV, router or console. It does not suit builds that require motherboard PWM signalling or multi-fan hubs with per-channel monitoring.

Questions about this item
How much power does the controller draw from the USB port when running a fan at 12V all day?
The unit is rated for up to 36W output at 12V, so the USB port must supply that load continuously.
What fan connector types do I already need on my fans for the included splitter to attach?
The cable works with standard 2-pin, 3-pin and 4-pin fan headers, plus the supplied DC5521-to-4-pin adapter.
Will the sliding dial still regulate voltage smoothly if I connect an older 2-pin fan that has no PWM wire?
Yes, the stepless knob adjusts voltage from 5V to 12V regardless of whether the fan uses 2, 3 or 4 pins.
