Refurbished OptiPlex 790 for business users

The refurbished DELL OptiPlex 790 desktop PC delivers a 2nd generation Intel Core i5-2400 processor at 3.10 GHz with 6 MB L3 cache, 8 GB DDR3 memory, and a 240 GB SSD. It ships with Windows 10 Pro and integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000, suited for office productivity and fleet deployment.

Upgrade from HDD-only legacy desktops

Replacing a mechanical hard drive with the included 240 GB SSD cuts boot and application load times for typical business workloads. The jump is worth it when moving from older Core 2 Duo or first-generation Core i5 systems that lack SSD storage and 64-bit quad-core performance.

Check DDR3 compatibility and display needs

Verify that any memory expansion uses DDR3 modules, as this platform does not support other generations. Confirm your monitor provides VGA, DisplayPort, or DVI input to match the onboard Intel HD Graphics 2000 outputs, and note that no optical drive beyond the DVD unit is included.

Questions about this item

What motherboard memory slots and generation does the OptiPlex 790 use for its 8 GB configuration?

The system uses DDR3 memory installed in standard DIMM slots on the OptiPlex 790 motherboard, providing the 8 GB capacity listed.

Which steps are required to install Windows 10 Pro on the 240 GB SSD, and where do users commonly go wrong?

Boot from the Windows 10 Pro installation media, select the 240 GB SSD as the target drive, and complete setup; the common error is skipping the driver load for the storage controller if the SSD is not detected.

What component upgrades or replacements should be anticipated for the Intel Core i5-2400 desktop over time?

The 240 GB SSD may need replacement as it ages, the DVD drive can fail mechanically, and the CMOS battery on the motherboard will eventually require a swap to retain BIOS settings.
