Dell ALT-1202 12V 2A power adapter

The Dell ALT-1202 is a 24 watt AC adapter that delivers 12 volts at up to 2 amps from a 100 to 240 volt mains supply. It suits owners of CCTV cameras, LED strips, wireless routers or 12 volt keyboards that draw 24 watts or less and use a 5.5 millimetre barrel jack with centre positive polarity.

5.5mm barrel connector and 14 interchangeable tips

A fixed 5.5 millimetre by 2.5 millimetre barrel plug connects the adapter to the device while 14 additional tips cover other barrel sizes. The corded electric design includes overload, over voltage, over temperature and short circuit cut off protection built into the smart chip.

5.5mm centre positive barrel jack

Verify that the target device specifies 12 volt DC input, centre positive polarity and a maximum draw of 24 watts or 2 amps. The adapter cannot power equipment that needs more than 24 watts, a different voltage or a non barrel connection.

Questions about this item

Will the 5.5 mm barrel connector wear out and need replacement after frequent plugging?

The reinforced stress point is tested for tensile and bending durability to resist copper wire breakage from repeated connector insertions.

At continuous 2 A output the adapter reaches its 24 W ceiling — what happens if the load tries to draw more?

The built-in smart chip triggers overload cut-off, over-voltage cut-off, over-temperature cut-off and short-circuit cut-off to protect the unit and connected device.

How hot or noisy does the ALT-1202 get when powering a router 24 hours a day?

The flame-retardant shell and multiple protection circuits keep temperatures in check, and with no fan the adapter runs silently during all-day operation.
