Indoor dual-radio 802.11ac access point

The Dell APIN0224 is an indoor wireless access point built for environments that need simultaneous 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz coverage. It delivers up to 1.3 Gbps over three spatial streams using 3x3 MIMO. The 2.4 GHz radio adds 256-QAM modulation for Turbo QAM clients, giving a 33% boost above standard 802.11n rates. This unit suits offices, schools or retail spaces requiring dense client support.

Dual-band radio with regulatory-domain channels

The access point operates on 2.4000 to 2.4835 GHz and multiple 5 GHz sub-bands from 5.150 to 5.850 GHz, with available channels set by the configured regulatory domain. Dynamic frequency selection automatically optimises spectrum use. Both radios are software-configurable, supporting 802.11b direct-sequence spread-spectrum and 802.11a/g/n/ac orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing. The indoor chassis is designed for ceiling or wall mounting in managed deployments.

PoE power and controller requirements

Before ordering, confirm your network infrastructure can supply Power over Ethernet to the APIN0224, as no separate power adapter is included. Verify that your existing wireless controller or Aruba Instant cluster supports the AP-224 model for centralised management. Ensure the planned mounting locations have Ethernet cabling routed to a PoE-capable switch port. Buyers needing standalone router features or outdoor-rated hardware should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

What throughput does the 802.11ac 3x3 MIMO radio cap at in practice?

The 5 GHz radio reaches up to 1.3 Gbps with three spatial streams.

What mounting hardware does the indoor AP-224 need?

It ships with brackets for ceiling or wall mounting; verify the tile-rail kit matches your ceiling grid.

How is the AP-224 adopted into Aruba Central and where do installs stall?

Connect the AP to a PoE-enabled switch port, then enter the claim token in Central; the step most often missed is claiming the device before the first firmware upgrade.
