Purpose and audience

The Dell Inspiron 16 5620 is a 16.0 inch laptop built around a 12th Generation Intel Core i7-1255U processor with 10 cores and a 4.7 GHz maximum turbo frequency. It targets home users and professionals who want a larger 16:10 display and discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX570 graphics for creative tasks or light gaming without moving to a bulky workstation chassis.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 12 MB cache and 10-core design help the CPU maintain throughput during extended compiles, video exports or multi-tab research sessions. DDR4-3200 memory running at 32 GB provides headroom for large datasets, while the 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD keeps read and write speeds consistent across long file transfers. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 maintain stable wireless links during prolonged video calls or cloud sync operations.

Build, connectivity and daily use

The platinum silver chassis measures 14.05 by 9.92 by 0.72 inches and weighs 4.12 lbs, fitting easily into most backpacks. The anti-glare FHD+ panel reaches 250 nits and includes ComfortView support for reduced blue light during all-day work. Ports comprise two USB 3.2 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Type-C, one HDMI and a combined headphone and microphone jack, covering monitors, peripherals and audio without dongles.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Core i7-1255U and MX570 get under all-day load?

The 10-core i7-1255U and discrete MX570 share a compact 0.72-inch chassis; sustained work spins the fans up, but the 250-nit non-touch panel and ComfortView help keep surface temps manageable.

Which ports and wireless standards do I need on my existing dock or peripherals?

Two USB 3.2 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Type-C, one HDMI and a combo audio jack are built in; wireless uses Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 via the MediaTek MT7921.

Can I keep my DDR4-3200 SO-DIMMs and PCIe NVMe drive when moving to this 5620?

The board takes DDR4-3200 memory up to 64 GB and a single M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, so existing DDR4 sticks and NVMe drives drop straight in.
