Reads CDs and DVDs at 8× speed over IDE for Latitude D-Module bays
The Dell J1644 is an internal optical drive with an 8X IDE interface. It is designed for Dell Latitude Dmodule systems requiring a replacement or additional read-only drive. This new unit suits technicians maintaining legacy laptop configurations.
Installation uses the standard IDE connection and mounting points found in the target Latitude Dmodule chassis. The drive reads CD media but does not write discs, so it frees the builder from sourcing a writer when only read capability is needed. It does not suit systems lacking an internal IDE optical bay or those requiring DVD writing.

No published specifications for this item yet.
The drive reads at up to 8X speed over the IDE interface, so the maximum sustained transfer rate is capped by that specification.
As an 8X IDE optical drive, it runs quietly with minimal heat output, drawing only the power needed for the IDE connection and the spinning disc.
