Business-class 14-inch laptop

The DELL Latitude 14-7490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop running Windows 11 Pro. It uses a quad-core i7-8650U processor at 1.90GHz with 8MB L3 cache and 16GB DDR4 memory. Integrated Intel HD Graphics drive the 1366 x 768 non-touch display. A 512GB SATA SSD provides storage.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The system relies on integrated graphics and a low-power U-series processor for everyday office workloads. Fan activity stays modest during document editing, web browsing and video playback. The 14-inch chassis dissipates heat without aggressive airflow. Power draw remains consistent with ultrabook-class efficiency targets.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous multi-core load the quad-core CPU maintains clocks within thermal limits. The 16GB DDR4 ceiling matches the factory maximum, so memory-intensive tasks cannot expand beyond installed capacity. Integrated graphics share system memory during prolonged render or compute sessions. The SATA SSD delivers steady throughput without thermal throttling.

Questions about this item

How do I replace the 512 GB SATA drive in the Latitude 14-7490, and which step is often missed?

Remove the base cover, disconnect the battery cable first, then swap the 2.5-inch SATA SSD; people often forget to unplug the battery before removing the drive screws.

What component in this laptop will need replacement first under normal use?

The internal battery is the only user-replaceable part that degrades with charge cycles; the 16 GB DDR4 memory and 512 GB SATA SSD are soldered or fixed at their maximum capacity.

What thermal limit appears first when the i7-8650U runs sustained workloads on this 14.0-inch chassis?

The quad-core 1.90 GHz processor hits its 8 MB cache power ceiling and throttles clock speeds once the integrated Intel HD Graphics and CPU share the same cooling solution.
