Latitude 5490 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for professionals who need a portable Windows 10 Pro machine. It runs on an Intel Core i5-8350U processor with four cores and 6MB cache, paired with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD for the operating system and core applications.

Installation and common issues

The laptop arrives with Windows 10 Pro x64 already installed, so initial setup only requires user account creation and network connection. The 15W processor and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 keep thermals manageable in the slim chassis. Buyers who want more storage than the 128GB drive provides will need to plan an upgrade or rely on external media.

Connectivity and interface limits

Video output is handled through one HDMI port and one USB-C port with DisplayPort alternate mode, supporting external monitors at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Wired networking uses a Gigabit Ethernet connection, while wireless relies on 802.11n or better standards. Three USB 3.0 ports and a legacy VGA port cover most peripheral needs without requiring adapters.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the Intel Core i5-8350U is running at its 1.7 GHz base speed after first boot?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, and confirm the CPU shows 4 cores, 8 threads, and a base frequency of 1.7 GHz under load.

Which accessories are included and which must be purchased separately?

The box contains the laptop, charger, and installed battery; any docking station, external monitor cable, or carrying case is sold separately.

Should I choose the 8 GB DDR4 / 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD configuration or look for a larger drive?

The 8 GB DDR4 memory handles typical office multitasking, while the 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD suits light local storage; add an external drive if you keep large media libraries.
