Latitude 5490 14 portable workstation

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch laptop built around a quad-core Intel Core i5-8350U processor running at 1.7 GHz with 6 MB cache. It ships with 32 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1366 x 768 HD non-touch display.

Connectivity limits on a slim chassis

The system provides three USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port with DisplayPort alternate mode, one HDMI port and one VGA port for external displays. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless handle wired and wireless networking. The 15 W processor thermal design helps battery life but caps sustained performance under heavy multi-threaded loads. No optical drive is fitted.

512 GB NVMe and 32 GB memory headroom

The 512 GB NVMe SSD offers fast boot and application loading with enough space for a large document library and typical business applications. 32 GB DDR4 allows many browser tabs, Office suites and virtual machines to run simultaneously. Integrated graphics and the 1366 x 768 panel limit 3D work, video editing and modern gaming. Buyers needing higher resolution screens, discrete GPU power or more than 512 GB of fast storage should look elsewhere.
