Business-ready 14.0" Latitude 5490

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8250U processor running at 1.6 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of memory and a 256 GB solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed, making it suitable for office professionals and mobile workers who need a reliable daily driver.

Thermals, noise and power in normal use

The system uses its bundled AC adapter for charging and operation while the functional battery supports mobile use. Typical office workloads keep the chassis warm but not hot, and fan noise stays at a low background level during document editing or web browsing. Power draw scales with CPU load but remains within the adapter’s rated output for standard business tasks.

What the bundled accessories change

A new Windows 10 Pro licence is included, removing the need for a separate operating-system purchase. The supplied AC adapter — either third-party new or OEM used — provides immediate power connectivity. A 90-day warranty covers the unit after it has passed functionality testing, and the battery is confirmed functional for portable operation.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256GB SSD in this Latitude 5490 and what step do people often miss?

The 256GB SSD is already installed and configured with Windows 10 Pro, so no installation is required; the step people miss is assuming they must fit a drive themselves.

What maintenance or replacement will the battery need later?

The included battery is functional but will degrade over time; plan to replace it when runtime drops below your needs, as it is a user-replaceable component.

What limit appears first on the i5-8250U under sustained heavy workloads?

The 1.6GHz base clock and thermal design of the i5-8250U will throttle boost clocks first during prolonged heavy workloads, limiting sustained performance.
