Dell Latitude 5490 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop running Windows 10 Pro. It uses an Intel Core i5-8250U quad-core processor with a 3.40 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 4GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive. A 1366 x 768 HD non-touch display and integrated graphics complete the core specification.

Connectivity and docking options

Ports include HDMI, DisplayPort over Type C, VGA, RJ45, an audio combo jack, an SD card slot and multiple USB 3.1 Gen 1 sockets, one with Powershare. A Noble wedge lock slot and optional uSIM slot are also present. The WD15 business dock connects through the Type C port to expand peripherals and power at a desk. Wireless 802.11ac and Bluetooth support mobile work.

Suited to office and mobile professionals

This configuration suits users who need a managed Windows 10 Pro device for document, email and web tasks on the move. The 4GB memory and mechanical hard drive limit performance with large datasets, virtual machines or modern creative suites. Buyers who want more storage capacity or faster application loading should look at models with solid-state drives and higher memory configurations.

Questions about this item

Can the 4 GB memory be upgraded later?

The system has 4 GB of RAM installed; the chassis provides accessible SODIMM slots for adding or replacing modules.

What limits performance first during a long workload?

The 4 GB RAM and 500 GB mechanical drive will bottleneck multitasking and load times before the quad-core i5-8250U reaches its thermal ceiling.

How loud and hot does it get when running all day?

The 15 W U-series chip and single fan keep surface temperatures moderate and fan noise low during typical office tasks.
