Built for Mobile Professionals

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.7 GHz. It ships with 16 GB of memory and a 256 GB solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit comes pre-installed for immediate deployment in corporate or education environments.

Stepping Up from Dual-Core or Mechanical Storage

This unit replaces older dual-core ultrabooks or hard-drive models that struggle with modern multitasking. The jump is worth it when your workload demands four responsive cores, 16 GB of system memory and the consistent speed of solid-state storage for daily office applications.

Standard Business Chassis Serviceability

The Latitude 5490 uses a conventional bottom-cover design allowing straightforward access to the SSD and memory slots with a Torx driver. Common issues include stripped case screws from prior repairs and fragile display-cable routing near the hinge that can tear if the lid is forced open past its stop.

Questions about this item

What physical space does the 14.0 inch chassis need on a desk?

The 14.0 inch form factor fits a standard laptop footprint and requires a flat surface large enough for the base and open lid.

How is the 16GB 2400 MHz memory installed, and what step is often missed?

The 16GB 2400 MHz memory is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded, so no installation step is required by the user.

When will the 256GB solid-state drive need replacement?

The 256GB solid-state drive has no moving parts and typically lasts years; replace it only if capacity runs out or SMART diagnostics report a failure.
