Latitude 5490 14" business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0-inch laptop built for mobile professionals who need reliable everyday performance. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with 16GB DDR4 memory. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1366 x 768 HD non-touch display. A 2TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides ample fast storage for documents and applications.

Ports and expansion for docking

Three USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port with DisplayPort output, HDMI and VGA connectors give flexible external-display options for meetings or desk setups. Gigabit Ethernet ensures wired network stability while 802.11n wireless handles mobility. The USB-C port supports video and data, reducing the number of cables needed when moving between workspaces. No optical drive is included, keeping the chassis slim.

Charger and battery included

The package supplies the laptop, a compatible charger and the internal battery so the system is ready to run out of the box. Windows 10 Pro x64 is pre-installed and licensed for immediate business use. Buyers who need a higher-resolution panel, discrete graphics or a touchscreen should consider other models as this unit uses a standard HD non-touch screen and integrated graphics only.

Questions about this item

How long can the 15 W i5-8350U sustain full load before it throttles?

The 15 W TDP means the quad-core chip will hit its thermal ceiling quickly in a thin 14" chassis; expect clocks to drop after a few minutes of continuous heavy work.

What fan noise and surface temperatures appear after hours of use?

Under sustained load the small fan spins audibly and the keyboard deck grows warm; light office tasks stay quiet and only mildly warm.

Which peripherals and cables must I already have to use the USB-C/DisplayPort and HDMI outputs?

You need a USB-C cable that carries DisplayPort alt-mode or a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter plus an HDMI cable for the full-size HDMI port.
