Latitude 5490 for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0" business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.70 GHz with 15W power draw. It ships with 32GB DDR4 memory and a 512GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handle office workloads and video calls via the built-in webcam. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Check ports power and OS needs

Verify that your peripherals match the available connections: three USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port with DisplayPort alternate mode, one HDMI port and one VGA port. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless are onboard. The 64-bit Windows 10 Pro licence requires compatible software. No optical drive is fitted. The unit includes a charger and battery; confirm the charger tip suits your region.

Sustained load on 15W quad core

Under continuous multi-threaded work the 15W quad-core CPU will throttle clock speeds to stay within its thermal envelope, so long renders or large compilations run slower than short bursts. The integrated UHD 620 graphics share system memory and are not suited for heavy 3D or compute tasks. Fan noise increases during extended loads. The NVMe SSD maintains high throughput for repeated read and write cycles.
