Latitude 5490 with i7-8650U

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0-inch business notebook powered by a quad-core Intel Core i7-8650U processor. It ships with Windows 10 Pro, 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB solid-state drive. The non-touch FHD display offers 1920 x 1080 resolution with an anti-glare finish. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles visual output for everyday professional tasks.

16GB DDR4 and 512GB SSD headroom

Sixteen gigabytes of 2400MHz DDR4 memory provides comfortable headroom for multitasking across office applications, browser tabs and video calls. The 512GB M.2 drive delivers fast boot and load times while storing a large local working set. Memory is not user-expandable beyond the factory configuration, so buyers who need more capacity should verify requirements before purchase. Storage-intensive workflows may eventually require external or cloud supplementation.

Chassis connectivity and daily use

Three USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports, one HDMI and one DisplayPort support multiple peripherals and external displays without adapters. Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 cover wired and wireless networking needs. An integrated fingerprint reader and front-facing webcam enable quick sign-in and conferencing. The compact 14.0-inch form factor suits mobile professionals, though the lack of an optical drive and limited port variety may restrict legacy peripheral users.

Questions about this item

Will the three USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports on the Latitude 5490 work with my older USB-A flash drives and hubs?

Yes, the USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports are backward-compatible with USB-A devices using a suitable adapter or cable. The ports support the 3.1 standard so legacy drives will operate at their rated speed.

How can I verify that the Intel Core i7-8650U and 16 GB DDR4 memory are running correctly after first boot?

Open Task Manager and check the Performance tab; it should show the i7-8650U with four cores at 1.90 GHz base clock and 16 GB of DDR4 memory at 2400 MHz. Device Manager will list Intel UHD Graphics 620 without errors.

Does the box include a power adapter and are there any essential accessories I must buy separately for the 14.0 inch FHD model?

The supplier description confirms an AC adapter is included. The system ships with Windows 10 Pro, 512 GB M.2 SSD, 16 GB DDR4, webcam, fingerprint reader, HDMI, DisplayPort and Gigabit Ethernet, so no mandatory extra purchases are required for basic operation.
