Business laptop for office professionals

The Dell Latitude 5500 is a 15.6 inch Full HD non-touch notebook built for daily business tasks. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8665U processor with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB solid-state drive. Integrated UHD Graphics 620 handles standard productivity and video playback. Security features include an IR camera and fingerprint reader for Windows Hello authentication.

Thermals and power in normal use

A 65W AC adapter supplies power to the system and charges the 4-cell 68Whr ExpressCharge capable battery. The chassis measures 14.1 by 9.3 by 0.79 inches and weighs from 4.04 pounds. Integrated graphics and the efficient quad-core processor keep heat output moderate during typical office workloads. Fan noise remains low for open-plan environments.

Specification that decides fit

The single 256GB SSD capacity determines whether this unit suits your storage needs. Users with large local media libraries or heavy project files will require external or cloud storage expansion. The 16GB DDR4 1866 memory is soldered and not upgradeable. Buyers needing more internal capacity or user-replaceable RAM should consider a different configuration.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256GB SSD and which step is often missed?

The 256GB SSD is already installed. If adding a second drive, open the base cover, insert the M.2 module into the free slot, secure it with the screw, then initialise the disk in Windows Disk Management before use.

What maintenance will the 68Whr battery need later?

The 4-cell 68Whr battery is internal. When runtime drops below your needs, book a Dell-authorised service to replace the pack; user replacement requires removing the base cover and disconnecting the battery cable.

What thermal limit appears first during sustained loads on the i7-8665U?

The quad-core i7-8665U with Integrated UHD Graphics 620 shares a single heat pipe; under continuous load the CPU hits its thermal throttle point first, reducing clocks to stay within the 15W TDP envelope.
