Compact business laptop for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 7400 is a 14-inch non-touch laptop powered by a quad-core Intel Core i7-8665U processor with a 4.8 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 32 GB of memory and a 256 GB SSD running Windows 10 Pro. The integrated graphics and FHD 1920 x 1080 display suit office productivity and remote management tasks.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 1.9 GHz base clock and 4.8 GHz turbo allow short bursts of high performance for compilation or data analysis. Under continuous load the ultra-thin chassis at 17.82 mm front and 18.96 mm rear height limits cooling capacity so clock speeds will settle lower than the peak figure. Integrated graphics share system memory, so heavy GPU tasks reduce bandwidth available to the CPU.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Verify that your peripherals work with the available ports: Thunderbolt 3 with Power Delivery and DisplayPort, HDMI 1.4, USB 3.1 Gen 1, a uSD 4.0 card reader and a universal audio jack. The 7.4 mm barrel connector is required for charging. Ensure your docking station or monitors support the Thunderbolt 3 or HDMI 1.4 video outputs.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Latitude 7400 get when the i7-8665U runs at its 4.8 GHz turbo all day?

The 14.0" chassis is only .70" at the front and .75" at the back, so sustained 4.8 GHz loads will spin the internal fan audibly and warm the palm-rest area.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 port for power and external displays?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable that supports Power Delivery and DisplayPort alt-mode; the laptop's 7.4 mm barrel jack remains the primary DC-in if you prefer the bundled adapter.

Will my older USB-A flash drives and HDMI monitor work without adapters on this 2019 Latitude?

Yes — one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port and an HDMI 1.4 output are built in, so legacy drives and 1080p screens connect directly.
