Product identity

The DELL Latitude 7420 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen laptop built around an Intel Core i7 1185G7 processor running at 3.0 GHz with 4 cores and 8 threads. It ships with Windows 11 Pro, 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD. Integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics drive the 1920 x 1080 FHD panel.

Included items and connectivity

The box contains the laptop, a charger and the installed battery. Ports include one HDMI output, one USB 3.2 Gen 1 port with Powershare and two Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C ports. A microSD card reader and a webcam are built in. Wireless covers 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.1.

Suitability and limits

This unit suits professionals who want a compact carbon-fibre chassis with touch input and Thunderbolt 4 docking potential. Buyers who need a pristine cosmetic appearance should look elsewhere because Grade B condition means visible scratches, shiny keys or surface wear. Users requiring a discrete GPU or upgradeable memory will not find those here.

Questions about this item

Can the 1 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD be replaced with a larger drive later?

The 1 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD is removable, so a larger NVMe drive can be installed when more space is needed.

Will the Intel Core i7 1185G7 3.0 GHz hit thermal limits before the 16 GB DDR4 memory fills up during sustained workloads?

The quad-core i7 1185G7 with 12 MB cache typically reaches its thermal ceiling before the 16 GB DDR4 becomes a bottleneck in long sessions.

How loud are the fans and how hot does the chassis get when the laptop runs all day on Windows 11 Pro?

Under continuous load the fans spin up to an audible level and the carbon-fibre chassis becomes warm, especially near the Thunderbolt 4 ports.
