Purpose-built business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7420 is a 14-inch Windows 11 Pro notebook designed for mobile professionals who need a compact, carbon-coloured device with a 1920 x 1080 LED display. A quad-core Intel Core i5-1145G7 processor running at 2.6 GHz and integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics handle everyday office workloads and video calls. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe solid-state drive provide responsive multitasking and fast boot times.

Build integration and expandability

The system ships with two memory slots and supports up to 32 GB of DDR4, allowing a future upgrade without replacing the existing modules. A single HDMI port and two USB connections cover basic external-display and peripheral needs, while 802.11 wireless handles network access. The absence of an optical drive keeps the chassis thin, and the integrated graphics solution leaves no discrete GPU to accommodate in a dock or bag.

Thermals, noise and power draw

Integrated graphics and a low-voltage processor help keep heat output modest during typical productivity tasks such as document editing, web browsing and video conferencing. Fan activity remains subdued under light loads, contributing to a quiet working environment in open-plan offices or home settings. The 512 GB NVMe drive draws minimal power compared with mechanical storage, supporting longer unplugged sessions on the internal battery.

Questions about this item

Does the Intel Core i5-1145G7 with its integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics throttle under continuous heavy workloads?

The quad-core processor runs at a 2.6 GHz base frequency and shares the 16 GB DDR4 system memory for graphics, so sustained heavy loads will hit thermal and power limits before the discrete GPU would.

What are the noise, heat or power characteristics once the laptop runs all day?

The 14.0 inch LED display, integrated graphics and 512 GB PCIe NVMe drive keep the chassis compact, so fan noise and surface temperature rise noticeably during extended high utilisation.

What else must I already own for this laptop to work?

Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and the 16 GB DDR4 memory fills the available slots up to the 32 GB maximum, so only a power source and network connection are required to start working.
