Latitude 7490 business ultrabook

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0" business ultrabook built around an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.90 GHz with a 4.20 GHz turbo. It ships with 16GB of DDR4 2400 memory and a 256GB solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed. The anti-glare FHD panel resolves 1920 x 1080.

Sustained workload behaviour

The 15W U-series chip maintains its 1.90 GHz base clock under continuous load; the 4.20 GHz turbo engages only while thermal headroom allows. Intel UHD Graphics handles office suites, video playback and light creative tasks without a discrete GPU. The 42W three-cell battery supplies mobile power for typical business sessions.

Installation and common pitfalls

The unit arrives ready to use — open the lid, connect the 65W adapter and sign in. Memory and storage are not user-accessible, so the 16GB DDR4 and 256GB SSD cannot be upgraded later. Buyers who need more RAM or a larger drive should select a different configuration. The non-touch display and lack of an optical drive are fixed by design.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the i7-8650U get when the laptop runs all day?

The 15 W processor and 3-cell 42 W battery keep heat and fan noise low during typical office workloads, and the 65 W adapter supplies enough headroom for sustained use.

What must I already own to start working with this Latitude 7490?

Only the included 65 W AC adapter and 125 V power cord are required; Windows 10 Pro, 16 GB DDR4 memory, 256 GB SSD and Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 8265 are already installed.

Will my older USB-A peripherals and external monitors connect without adapters?

Yes — the chassis provides full-size USB-A ports and native video outputs that support external displays up to 1920 x 1080 resolution.
