Professional 14-inch touchscreen laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch FHD touchscreen laptop built for professionals who need a portable Windows 11 Pro device with pen and finger input. It runs on an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with a base frequency of 1.90 GHz and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.20 GHz. The system includes 16GB of DDR4 2400MHz memory and a 256GB solid-state drive. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics handles the display output on the 1920 x 1080 anti-glare panel.

Suits mobile workers needing touch input

This configuration suits mobile workers who value the 3.11 lb starting weight and the 14 inch touchscreen for on-site annotations or presentations. The IR camera and microphone support Windows Hello facial recognition for quick sign-in. Buyers who require a dedicated graphics processor for rendering or gaming should look elsewhere. Users needing more than 256GB of internal storage or a discrete GPU will not find those features here.

Quad-core i7-8650U with 15W TDP

The single specification that decides fit is the Intel Core i7-8650U processor operating at a 15W thermal design power with four cores and eight threads. This CPU delivers a maximum turbo frequency of 4.20 GHz within a thin chassis measuring 17.9 mm in height. The 65W AC adapter supplies power for the 42W three-cell battery. If your workload demands sustained multi-core performance above this thermal envelope, this model will throttle.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the 15 W i7-8650U get during all-day workloads?

The 15 W quad-core processor runs cool enough for the thin 17.9 mm chassis; fan noise stays low in typical office use and the 42 Wh battery delivers a full workday.

Which peripherals must I already own to start working immediately?

The 65 W worldwide AC adapter and 125 V US power cord are included, so only a network connection or the built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi is required.

Will my existing DDR4-2400 SO-DIMMs work if I want more than the soldered 16 GB?

Memory is not upgradeable; the 16 GB DDR4-2400 is soldered, so plan on the factory capacity for the life of the device.
