Dell Latitude 7490 14 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14-inch business laptop built for professionals who need a portable and secure Windows 10 Pro device. It runs on an 8th generation Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor with a turbo frequency up to 3.60 GHz. The system includes 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD for storage. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles the visual output on the anti-glare display.

Suits mobile office work not high-end creative tasks

This configuration suits users who need a reliable machine for document editing, email, video calls and web-based applications while travelling or hot-desking. The 14.0 inch FHD WVA screen at 1920 x 1080 resolution provides clear text and includes a webcam with microphone for conferencing. Buyers who want a dedicated graphics processor for 3D rendering, video encoding or modern gaming titles should look at a different class of device. The shared video memory and integrated GPU limit performance in those workloads.

8GB DDR4 soldered memory defines upgrade limits

The single specification that decides fit is the 8GB of DDR4 memory, which is not user-upgradeable on this model. If your daily workflow regularly exceeds 8GB of RAM usage — such as running multiple virtual machines, large datasets or heavy browser tab counts — this laptop will bottleneck. Users comfortable with 8GB for standard business applications will find the 512GB NVMe SSD and quad-core processor a balanced match for the platform.

Questions about this item

How long does the i5-8350U maintain its 3.60 GHz turbo before throttling under sustained load?

The quad-core i5-8350U runs at up to 3.60 GHz; thermal limits of the 14.0 inch chassis will determine how long that speed is held during continuous work.

What fan noise and surface temperatures should I expect when the laptop runs all day?

The 14 inch business chassis uses shared Intel UHD Graphics 620 cooling; expect audible fan spin under load and warm palm-rest areas after extended use.

Which peripherals and accounts must I already have to start working with Windows 10 Pro?

The box includes the laptop and charger only; you will need a Microsoft account, network credentials for Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 8265 Wi-Fi, and any external monitors or docks via the available ports.
