Latitude 7490 for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 7490 pairs an Intel Core i7-8650U processor with 16GB of memory and a 512GB solid-state drive. A 14.1-inch FHD panel at 1920 x 1080 resolution provides a crisp workspace for documents and web apps. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit ships in English, French and Spanish. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles everyday visual tasks.

Thermals and power in daily use

The quad-core Coffee Lake CPU runs at a 1.90GHz base with a 4.20GHz turbo frequency and 8MB of L3 cache. Integrated graphics share system memory, keeping the platform power draw modest during typical office workloads. Fan noise remains low when browsing, streaming video or editing spreadsheets. The 64-bit operating system manages memory efficiently for the 16GB capacity.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous multi-threaded demand the processor can maintain elevated clocks within its thermal envelope. Shared video memory means graphics-intensive tasks draw from the main 16GB pool rather than dedicated VRAM. The 256GB SSD and 256GB HDD combination offers tiered storage for active projects and archives. Buyers who need discrete graphics or more storage should consider other configurations.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 512GB storage drive into the Latitude 7490?

Remove the base cover, slot the 512GB drive into the internal bay, secure it with the caddy screws, then initialise the volume in Disk Management before cloning or installing Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

What maintenance will the 16GB memory and Intel Core i7-8650U need later?

The 16GB memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded; keep the Intel Core i7-8650U heatsink clean by blowing dust from the fan vents every few months to maintain the 4.20GHz turbo frequency.

What limit appears first when the Intel HD Graphics 620 runs sustained workloads?

The Intel HD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory from the 16GB RAM, so extended 1920 x 1080 rendering will hit thermal throttling on the i7-8650U before graphics memory becomes the bottleneck.
