Dell Latitude 7490 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0" business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.9GHz. It comes with 8GB of memory and a 128GB SSD for the operating system and core applications. The chassis measures 13.03 x 8.7 x 0.70 inches and the integrated battery delivers up to 10 hours of use on a single charge. A built-in card reader and one HDMI output handle basic peripheral and display connections.

Suited to mobile office work.

This configuration suits professionals who need a lightweight Windows machine for email, document editing and browser-based workflows while travelling. The 1366 x 768 panel and Intel UHD Graphics limit its appeal for colour-critical design, video editing or modern 3D applications. Buyers who want more storage, a higher-resolution display or discrete graphics should look at other models.

128GB SSD capacity decides fit

The single 128GB solid-state drive is the specification that determines whether this unit meets a buyer's needs. It holds the operating system and a modest set of business apps, but leaves little room for large local media libraries or project files. Users who rely on cloud storage or network shares will find the capacity adequate; those who keep bulky datasets on the device will not.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 128GB SSD in the Latitude 7490, and which step do people often miss?

Remove the base cover, disconnect the battery, slide the drive into the M.2 slot at an angle, then secure it with the single retention screw; many forget to reconnect the battery before reassembling.

What maintenance will the 8GB memory and 128GB SSD need over time?

The memory is soldered and requires no service; the SSD has no moving parts, so only firmware updates and occasional TRIM optimisation are needed.

At what point does the 1366 x 768 display or Intel UHD Graphics become the bottleneck during sustained workloads?

The 1366 x 768 panel limits visible detail long before the UHD Graphics thermal-throttles, so resolution is the first constraint in extended sessions.
