14-inch FHD business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14-inch Full HD laptop built for mobile professionals. It runs Windows 11 Pro on an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 16GB of DDR4 memory. A 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD provides fast storage for documents and applications. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 non-touch display.

Suits travellers; not for GPU workloads

This ultraportable suits people who travel often or meet clients and need HDMI plus Thunderbolt 3 for docks, projectors or external displays. The quad-core CPU and 16GB RAM handle office multitasking and video calls with the built-in webcam. Buyers who need discrete graphics for rendering, CAD or gaming should look at a workstation-class machine instead. The integrated GPU shares system memory and cannot accelerate those tasks.

Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port decides dock compatibility

The single specification that decides fit is the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port, which carries data, video and power through one connector. If your workflow relies on a single-cable dock or high-speed external storage, this port is the gatekeeper. Without it you lose the ability to drive multiple 4K displays or connect PCIe enclosures at full speed.

Questions about this item

How does the 1.9 GHz base clock of the Core i7-8650U behave under load in this laptop?

The processor can reach 4.2 GHz with Turbo Boost across its four cores and eight threads, so sustained workloads run well above the base frequency.

What display outputs does the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port support on this Latitude 7490?

The Thunderbolt 3 port carries video and data, allowing connection to external monitors, docks or projectors alongside the HDMI port.

What storage upgrades are possible inside the 7490 chassis?

The 1 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD occupies the primary slot; additional storage would require replacing this drive.
