Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch notebook built around an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.90 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 4.2 GHz. It ships with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display, Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI output and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 suit travelling workers who need reliable productivity on the move.

Thermals noise and power draw in normal use

The low-voltage 8th generation Core i7 is designed for high efficiency, helping extend battery life during typical office workloads. Integrated UHD Graphics 620 keeps heat output modest compared with discrete GPU configurations. Fan activity stays quiet during light tasks such as document editing or video calls, ramping up only under sustained multi-core loads.

16 GB soldered memory limit

Memory is not upgradeable beyond the factory 16 GB DDR4, so buyers who need more capacity for virtual machines or large datasets should consider a different platform. The single 1 TB NVMe drive can be replaced with a larger M.2 module if additional local storage is required. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed and ready for domain join.

Questions about this item

How do I install a second M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD in the Dell Latitude 7490, and what step is commonly missed?

The laptop has one M.2 slot occupied by the 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD; a second drive cannot be added internally without removing the existing one.

What maintenance or replacement will the Dell Latitude 7490 need later?

The internal battery will degrade over time and require replacement; the 16GB DDR4 memory is soldered and not upgradeable.

What limit appears first on the Dell Latitude 7490 during sustained heavy workloads?

The Intel Core i7-8650U 1.9GHz processor with 8MB cache will hit thermal throttling limits before the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 becomes a bottleneck.
