Business laptop with 14.1" screen

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.1-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.90 GHz with a maximum turbo frequency of 4.2 GHz. It comes with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB M.2 2280 SATA SSD. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 non-touch anti-glare display. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Suited to office work and travel.

This configuration suits professionals who need a lightweight chassis, a backlit keyboard and a 60 Whr battery with Express Charge for mobile productivity. The HD webcam, smart-card reader and Noble lock slot support secure remote working. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance for 3D rendering, video editing or modern gaming should look elsewhere, as the system relies on shared system memory for graphics. The 256 GB SSD capacity may also limit users with large local media libraries.

Quad-core i7-8650U with 16 GB RAM decides fit

The Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor paired with 16 GB of DDR4 memory is the specification that determines whether this laptop matches the workload. It delivers enough multi-threaded performance for typical business applications, virtualisation and multitasking. The 256 GB SATA SSD provides solid-state responsiveness for the operating system and core programs. Buyers should verify that this CPU and memory combination meets their specific software requirements before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does the i7-8650U hit its 4.2 GHz turbo under sustained multi-core loads?

The 4.2 GHz figure is the maximum single-core turbo; sustained multi-core workloads will run at lower clocks due to the processor's thermal limits.

How loud and hot does the laptop get when running all day?

The 60 Whr battery and integrated UHD 620 graphics keep power draw modest; fan noise rises under load but stays at office-friendly levels, and the magnesium-alloy chassis spreads heat without becoming uncomfortable.

Which dock or monitor cables do I need to start working immediately?

The unit includes the original power adapter; add an HDMI 1.4 cable for external displays or a USB-C DisplayPort adapter if your monitor uses that input.
