Ready-to-use 14-inch business laptop

The Dell Latitude E5420 arrives with Windows 10 Home pre-installed and an Intel Core i7 mobile processor running at 2.20 GHz. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR3 memory and a 256 GB solid-state drive provide responsive performance for everyday office tasks. A built-in DVD-RW drive, webcam, and HD+ LED display complete the package for immediate productivity.

Replaces an ageing dual-core notebook

Upgrading from a system with a mechanical hard drive and less than 8 GB of RAM yields a noticeable jump in boot speed and multitasking headroom. The integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics handle standard business applications and video playback without a discrete card. Buyers who need dedicated graphics performance or more than 256 GB of internal storage should look elsewhere.

Check power and port requirements

The unit uses a 65 W power adapter, so verify that your existing Dell charger matches this rating before ordering. Connectivity includes VGA, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, and an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless module for Wi-Fi access. A Trusted Platform Module 1.2 security chip is fitted for hardware-based encryption support.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" 256 GB SSD fit in a standard 2.5-inch drive bay?

Yes, the 2.5" 256 GB solid-state drive is designed for the laptop's internal 2.5-inch drive bay.

How do I install Windows 10 Home on the 256 GB SSD, and what step is often missed?

Boot from the recovery media, select the 256 GB SSD as the target, and remember to install the Intel chipset drivers after the first reboot so the HM65 Express chipset is fully recognised.

When will the 16 GB DDR3 memory need to be upgraded or replaced?

The 16 GB DDR3 RAM is already at the system maximum, so no further memory upgrade is possible; replace modules only if a diagnostic tool reports a fault.
