Ready for work and travel

The Dell Latitude E5420 is a 14.0-inch HD+ laptop built around a 2.20 GHz Intel Core i7 quad-core processor with 6 MB L3 cache. It ships with 8 GB DDR3 memory, a 1 TB 2.5-inch SSD and Windows 10 Pro pre-installed. Integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics drive the 1366 x 768 LED-backlit panel.

Expand storage and connect peripherals

The chassis includes a DVD-RW drive, a built-in card reader and both VGA and HDMI video outputs for external displays. Gigabit Ethernet and Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wi-Fi handle wired and wireless networking. Two SODIMM slots support up to 16 GB of DDR3 if more memory is needed later.

Cool and quiet for office tasks

Integrated graphics and a 2nd-generation mobile CPU keep heat output modest during typical productivity workloads. The fan spins up only under sustained load and remains unobtrusive in quiet rooms. The 65 W-class power adapter supplies ample headroom for the system and attached USB devices.

Questions about this item

Does the 1TB SSD provide enough sustained throughput for all-day workloads?

The 2.5" 1TB solid-state drive delivers consistent read and write speeds without mechanical bottlenecks, so the storage subsystem stays responsive during extended sessions.

How loud or hot does the laptop get when running continuously?

The Intel Core i7 2nd Gen quad-core processor and integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics share a single cooling solution; under continuous load the fan spins up to a moderate audible level and the chassis warms noticeably around the keyboard deck.

What memory modules must already be installed for the system to boot?

The platform uses DDR3 SO-DIMMs; the unit ships with 8 GB installed across two slots and supports up to 16 GB total, so compatible DDR3 modules are required for any upgrade.
