Dell Latitude E5450 14" HD laptop

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0-inch HD laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-5300U dual-core processor running at 2.30 GHz with a turbo frequency of 2.90 GHz. It comes equipped with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 500GB 2.5-inch SATA SSD. The system ships without an operating system installed.

Thermals noise and power

The Intel Core i5-5300U is a low-power dual-core processor designed for thin-and-light laptops, so thermal output and fan noise remain modest during typical office workloads. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 shares system memory and does not add a discrete GPU heat source. Power draw stays within the ultrabook-class envelope for which the chassis was engineered.

16GB DDR3 memory ceiling

Memory is maxed out at 16GB across two slots with no headroom for expansion beyond the factory limit. Buyers who need more than 16GB of RAM cannot upgrade this unit and should consider a different platform. The 500GB SATA SSD provides solid-state speed but capacity is fixed unless the drive is replaced.

Questions about this item

How do I install the operating system on this Dell Latitude E5450 since it ships with no OS?

Create a bootable USB drive with your chosen OS, enter the BIOS at startup, set the USB as first boot device, then follow the on-screen installer prompts to the 500GB SATA SSD.

What memory upgrades are possible later given the two DDR3 slots and 16GB already installed?

The board maxes out at 16GB across both slots, so the current 16GB fills the limit; no further RAM upgrade is possible.

What thermal or power limit appears first during long workloads on the i5-5300U?

The dual-core 2.30GHz processor with 2.90GHz turbo will hit its thermal envelope before sustained turbo clocks can be maintained, causing clock throttling under continuous load.
