Latitude E5450 for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude E5450 is a 14.0 inch FHD laptop built around an Intel Core i5-5300U dual-core processor with 8GB of DDR3 memory. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and a new 1TB SATA SSD. This configuration suits professionals who need a reliable Windows machine for office applications and web-based workflows.

Sustained workload behaviour

The i5-5300U runs at a base frequency of 2.30 GHz and can reach a turbo frequency of 2.90 GHz when thermal headroom allows. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 handles the 1920 x 1080 display without a discrete GPU. Under continuous load the ultra-low-voltage chip will throttle to maintain temperatures, so extended compiles or large spreadsheet calculations run slower than the peak turbo figure suggests.

Storage capacity and upgrade limit

The laptop includes a new 1TB 2.5 inch SATA SSD as its sole drive and supports a maximum of 16 GB of memory across two slots. Buyers who need more internal storage than one terabyte or more than 16 GB of RAM cannot meet those requirements with this chassis.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Core i5-5300U get when the Latitude E5450 runs all day?

The dual-core Core i5-5300U operates at 2.30 GHz base and 2.90 GHz turbo; under sustained load the fan spins up but stays at office-friendly levels and the palm-rest area remains comfortable to touch.

What must I already own to use the 1 TB SATA SSD and 8 GB DDR3 memory in this Latitude E5450?

The 1 TB SSD uses a standard 2.5" SATA connection and the 8 GB DDR3 occupies one of two slots, so no proprietary caddy or special memory kit is required.

Will my older SATA drives and DDR3 modules work alongside the installed parts in this E5450?

Yes — the second memory slot accepts DDR3 up to 16 GB total, and the 2.5" SATA bay can take any compatible SATA SSD or hard drive you already have.
