14" HD+ business laptop

The Dell Latitude E5470 is a 14.0" HD+ laptop built around an Intel Core i5-6440HQ quad-core processor running at 2.60 GHz with a 3.50 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 500GB 2.5" SATA SSD. The system includes Intel HD Graphics 530 and arrives without an operating system installed.

Chassis and connectivity

The black chassis houses a non-touch 1600 x 900 display, integrated webcam and Bluetooth. Two memory slots support up to 16 GB of DDR3 for future expansion. The 2.5" SATA SSD slot allows straightforward storage upgrades or replacements without proprietary drive formats.

Upgrade path and fit

This unit replaces older dual-core business laptops that lack SSD responsiveness and modern graphics decode. The jump is worthwhile when moving from a mechanical drive to the included new 500GB SSD or when quad-core throughput is needed for multitasking. Buyers who require a pre-loaded OS or higher-resolution panel should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Does the 500 GB SSD use a SATA interface and what does that cap in practice?

The 500 GB 2.5" SATA SSD is limited by the SATA bus to typical sequential speeds around 500 MB/s.

What physical space and connector does the 2.5" SATA drive need to fit?

It requires a standard 2.5-inch drive bay with a 7 mm height and a SATA data plus power connector.

How is the SSD installed and which step do people often miss?

Remove the bottom cover, slide the drive into the caddy, secure it with screws, connect the SATA cable, then initialise the disk in BIOS before installing an OS.
