Latitude E7440 business ultrabook

The Dell Latitude E7440 is a 14-inch business ultrabook running Windows 10 Pro. It uses a 4th Generation Intel Core i5-4200U dual-core processor with Intel HD Graphics. The system includes 16 GB of DDR3 memory in an 8 GB x 2 configuration. Storage combines a 256 GB mSATA SSD with a 2.5-inch 1 TB SSD.

Suits mobile professionals needing dual-drive

This laptop suits professionals who want the operating system on a fast mSATA drive and a large 1 TB SSD for data. The 1280 x 720 non-touch display and integrated graphics handle office applications and video calls via the built-in webcam. Buyers who need a higher-resolution screen, a touchscreen, or discrete graphics for creative workloads should look at other models.

Dual-drive layout decides fit

The defining specification is the dual-drive layout: a 256 GB mSATA SSD for the OS plus a 2.5-inch 1 TB SSD for storage. Verify that your deployment process supports this mSATA and 2.5-inch combination before purchasing.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the dual-core Intel Core i5-4200U is running at its 1.6-1.9 GHz range after setup?

Open Task Manager in Windows 10 Pro, select the Performance tab, and watch the live CPU frequency readout while the system is idle and under load; it should settle between the base and turbo figures.

Which items are included with the Latitude E7440 and what must I source myself?

The box contains the 14.0" HD LED Ultrabook with 16 GB DDR3 (8 GB x 2), 256 GB mSATA SSD plus 1 TB 2.5" SSD, DVD-RW drive, HDMI and VGA outputs, integrated webcam, and Windows 10 Pro pre-installed; no external accessories are bundled.

Should I choose the mSATA boot drive or the 2.5" drive for the operating system?

The supplier configures the 256 GB mSATA SSD as the Windows 10 Pro boot volume for faster start-up, while the 1 TB 2.5" SSD appears as a second drive for data storage.
