Dell Latitude E7440 Ultrabook

The Dell Latitude E7440 is a 14-inch business ultrabook running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. It uses a dual-core Intel Core i5-4200U processor from the 4th generation with Intel HD Graphics. Memory consists of 8 GB DDR3 SODIMM across two slots. Storage is a 2.5-inch 512 GB SATA solid-state drive. The non-touch display outputs at 1280 x 720 resolution.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy ports

This laptop fits users who require native VGA and HDMI outputs for older projectors or docks. The optical DVD-RW drive supports physical media workflows still common in some offices. Buyers who need a touchscreen, higher display resolution, or discrete graphics performance should look elsewhere. The integrated graphics and 720p panel limit modern content creation and multi-monitor clarity.

Deciding specification: 1280 x 720 non-touch display

The 14-inch panel resolves at 1280 by 720 pixels without touch input. This resolution determines how much on-screen information fits in business applications and whether text remains sharp during extended use. If the workflow demands 1080p or higher, this screen will not meet that requirement. All other components scale around this display constraint.

Questions about this item

What speed does the SATA 2.5" 512 GB SSD interface limit the drive to in practice?

The SATA interface on this E7440 caps the 512 GB SSD at SATA 6 Gb/s speeds, so real-world sequential reads top out around the interface ceiling rather than the drive's own maximum.

What physical space and connector does the 512 GB drive need to fit inside the Latitude E7440?

It requires a standard 2.5 inch SATA drive bay with 7 mm height clearance and the SATA data and power connector on the motherboard.

How is the 512 GB SSD installed in the E7440, and which step do people often miss?

Remove the base cover, slide the drive into the 2.5 inch SATA bay, secure it with the caddy screws, then reconnect the SATA cable — many forget to re-seat the cable fully before closing the case.
